Sports in different arenas
Hello guys.
We’re 4 boys and 2 girls from Copenhagen. We’re between 16-17 years and are doing our first year of age in high school. In our class we’re doing a lot of sports – everything from soccer to dance. Therefore sport is a big part of our daily life. We have 3 hours of sport lessons a week and a lot of physical theory. Rysensteen Gymnasium has a partnership with a big sports center called the DGI, where we can use their faculties for free.
From our perspective sports can be a lot of things. You can practice sports in your free time as a hobby and that’s also a good way obtain a strong social life.
Sports can also be practiced on a very high level. Also at Rysensteen Gymnasium. In our class we have a lot of talented athletes. Four guys from our class do their individual sports on a very high competing level.
Sports are a big part of cultural life in Denmark. Sports like soccer, tennis, and handball (invented in Denmark) are all very popular and followed intensely by the medias. A lot of famous and talented athletes come from Denmark compared to the geographic size of the country. Maybe you’ve heard about Michael Laudrup, Peter Schmeichel and Caroline Wozniacki?
We’re looking forward to hearing from you and hearing about your sports habits.
Yours sincerely,

First meeting:
We talked to Taha, and asked him a lot of questions about his country and culture. We talked about how much sports they do in school and outside. Actually they have just as much sports in school as we do, but unlike us, they are split up boys and girls. The boys mostly do soccer and other ball games, and the girls go swimming.
We also talked about the cities and the difference between the European side of Turkey and the Asian. They live on the Asian side of Istanbul and he tells about the big differences. We tasted there special pistachio nuts and there cultural candy, Turkish delight. We saw some videos from their schools and commercials from the country.
